Ramy, the young football prodigy, who like fellow soccer player and co-awardee Iñaki Achaval, was curiously also a Mechanical Engineer major. Balancing an intense academic career and serious sports achievements was not a challenge for the gifted Ramy, who saw membership in several multi-titled junior and senior DLSC NCAA football teams. Such was his deftness of skill that the senior football team recruited him as a half-back (or midfielder) while he was still in high school. By 1956 Ramy was part of the Philippine Senior Team, alongside with teammates and fellow Sports Hall of Famers Bobby Da Silva, Joey and Albert Villareal and recent 2006 inductee Angelo Dauden, that played at the Interport Championships in Seoul, Korea as well as in exhibition matches in Bilbao, Spain, against Athletic Bilbao, a Spanish semi-professional club. In 1958, he captained the Philippine Youth Football Team for the Youth Championships in Merdeka, Malaysia, where he played together with teammates and co-Hall of Famers Rico Veloso (DLSAA Sport Hall of Fame inductee for 2007), and his co-awardee for the evening, Nacho Pertierra. Rami showcased his exceptional skill on the field as a member of both the youth and non-youth national teams.
