| DLSAA Midwest Hosted a Charity Dinner
October 24, 2009 – DLSAA Midwest Chapter together with Ateneans USA
hosted a successful charity dinner attended by both the alumni of La
Salle and Ateneo, and their family and friends. This is the first time
in the Midwest that both La Salle and Ateneo came together to host an
event. “I don’t consider this event as a La Salle or Ateneo event but
Filipinos putting their resources together to help out our unfortunate
fellow countrymen” said Jerrick Simbol, President of DLSAA Midwest.
The event was sponsored by Via Times and Chicago Philippine Reports
TV. The proceeds of the event were donated to Gawad Kalinga for the
benefit of the victims of the recent typhoons that hit the Philippines.
During the night, the guests were treated to some good music, a belly
dancing performance by Lesly Baker of “By Zafira”, live and silent
auction, and raffle prizes. And together with the entertainment, Rodan’s
Chef Dave Gebhardt prepared a special menu that was enjoyed by everyone
who attended the dinner.
Jhoanne Gabagat from Gawad Kalinga
talked about the current situation and showed a short film about the
devastation that the typhoons brought to the Philippines.
Les
Anama, President of Ateneo de Manila Alumni Association of Chicago was
quoted on saying “This is just the beginning of a long rebuilding
process and we should continue on helping our less fortunate kababayan.”
DLSAA Midwest Chapter recognizes that and will strive to continue
creating opportunities to help out our fellow countrymen who need help.
