| The DLSAA's mission is the fraternity of Lasallian alumni.
Accordingly, it realizes that while "organizational structuring"
addresses the problem of management, it does little for alumni interest,
both in and out of school. The underdeveloped alumni unit, generically
labeled SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP,
is equally important to fulfill DLSAA's mission.
While in
school, an alumnus develops a new network of friends firstly promoted by
common circumstance: course classmates. Over time, he joins groups of
students with common interests in sports, writing/journalism, performing
arts, professional supplementation, etc. It is then that his time is
divided between course and common interest friends. The DLSAA knows that
school memories are results of the kinship of both.
The
DLSAA Alumni Club is the organization for and the answer to SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS. DLSU's
official Student Handbook categorizes student organizations as either:
- Student publications, independent and based on the
1992 Campus Journalism Act;
- Performing
groups under the Cultural Arts Office;
- Student government units (Student Council, etc.);
- Organizations under the Council of Student
Organizations; and
- Varsity
teams under the Office of Sports Development.

the DLSAA, these classifications are not material and these are simply
called SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS and
their DLSAA generic label is the DLSAA
Alumni Club.
It is useful to note that American
alumni associations have clubs, which are the equivalent of DLSAA's
chapters. For example, the University of Virginia defines clubs as
"groups of alumni which are named for their location..." and so forth.
