Holiday Spirit in September: One La Salle Alumni of SOCAL Celebrates 'Pasko sa Setyembre' with Tondo Children
Last September 7, 2024, the One La Salle Alumni of Southern California (SOCAL), in collaboration with the De La Salle Alumni Association (DLSAA), the De La Salle University (DLSU), and the Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA), successfully held the “Tulungan is the New Normal 3 - Pasko sa Setyembre” charity event at the Henry Sy Sr. Hall grounds of De La Salle University, Taft Avenue, Manila.
This heartwarming initiative brought early Christmas cheer to 100 children from Tondo—50 boys and 50 girls—recently affected by flooding. The event aimed to provide support and joy to these children, reflecting the Lasallian spirit of community and service.
The charity event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Dr. John Olaco, Dr. Joaquin Moreno, Ms. Louise Macatuggal, and COSCA. Their hard work in organizing and executing the event was vital in ensuring its success.
A notable event highlight was the overwhelming support from generous sponsors and alumni. The One La Salle Alumni of SOCAL led the charge, headed by President Al Justin Pintor and Mr. Alger Brion. Alongside them were numerous benefactors, including Mr. and Mrs. Jun and Arlie Singson, Mr. Juan de la Rama, Mr. and Mrs. George and Evelyn Cheng, Ms. Pet Brion, Mrs. Gina Brion, Mr. and Mrs. Romy and Vigie Calderon, Mr. and Mrs. Enchong and Cel Formoso, and Mr. Joel Cruz, famously known as the Lord of Scents. Cruz’s donation, accompanied by giveaways from his eight children, added a significant impact on the event’s success.
DLSAA President Prof. Randy Nonato and DLSU President Br. Bernie Oca were instrumental in providing their support, allowing the event to take place on the DLSU grounds. Special thanks were extended to Ms. Marife Torres for her unwavering support, the Lasallian Ambassadors for their hospitality and assistance, DLSU Innersoul for their excellent performances, and Jess Nazz Macatuggal for expertly emceeing the event.
The “Tulungan is the New Normal” series is more than just a charity initiative—it has become a cherished tradition that embodies the Lasallian spirit. Over the past three years, the One La Salle Alumni of SOCAL and its partners have demonstrated that charity is not just about giving but also about creating meaningful connections and uplifting lives.
As the event concluded with cheers and heartfelt prayers, the message was clear: compassion, kindness, and community are the true hallmarks of the Lasallian spirit. For the children of Tondo, the early Christmas celebration was not just a day of gifts and games; it was a reminder that there is a community that cares deeply for their well-being and future.
With continued support from the Lasallian community and its alumni, events like “Pasko sa Setyembre” will hopefully become even more impactful in the years to come, continuing to spread joy, hope, and the spirit of giving to those who need it most.
Animo La Salle!
