for his outstanding performance as goalkeeper in NCAA football which earned for him championships in the Junior and Senior divisions, ultimately leading to his entry to international competitions through the 1958 and 1959 RP Youth Teams
Rickard was part of the De La Salle Midget Football Team during his elementary days in grade school (1953-1954), and played under the Boys Football Association(BOFA) as a goalkeeper. He played the same position in the De La Salle Junior Varsity Football Team from 1955-1959 as part of the NCAA League. At the same time, Rickard also participated in the De La Salle Junior Varsity Track and Field team from 1957-1958. From 1959-1961, Rickard joined the La Salle Alumni Athletic Football Club as a goalkeeper. He has won numerous awards and medals over the years, such as Silver in the 1957 DLSC as part of the Junior Football Varsity Team and NCAA runner-up. Rickard garnered the gold medal in 1959 while playing with the Senior Football Varsity Team who became the NCAA Champions at that time. In 1958, Rickard won silver while playing for the Junior Varsity Track and Field Team and was the NCAA runner-up. He also got the Gold Medal in 1959 as a token by the Mayor of Bacolod City to the DLSC varsity basketball team for participating in an exhibition game versus Ateneo.
