Victor Ꭰ. Valeriano WaS born on February 28, 1942. Having Studied at De La Salle College from kindergarten to first year high school in 1956, Vic is a recognized member of the DLS HS Class of 1959. His most significant achievement as a La Sallite was being awarded a papal medallion by Pope Pious XII for a paper on the Immaculate Conception. Most of the members of the Valeriano family, male and female, have served in the military or law enforcement in the Philippines and the United States. Both Vic and his father, Col. Napoleon D. Valeriano served with the US military in Vietnam in the late sixties. Vic enlisted in the US Army in 1965. Choosing combat arms, he underwent training and attended leadership School in addition to airborne school. He was selected to join the Special Forces. In 1966, he was ordered to Vietnam where he volunteered for the forerunner of what is now called Special Operations – Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol or LRRPS. This special ops group operates in sixman teams most of the time deep in enemy territory beyond the normal support of regular infantry units. The LRRPs were eventually designated as Ranger units. Vic is a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, all the awards for combat or valor. He is a two-time recipient of the Army commendation medal with V for Valor and also twice awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry in action. The first was awarded in the battlefield the day after the action together with the Purple Heart for combat wounds. Vic is also a member of the US Army Ranger Hall of Fame, inducted in 2002. Vic returned to civilian life in 1969 and joined United Airlines rising through the ranks to senior sales account executive in Washington DC. In 1984, he returned to the Philippines and organized the country's home defense forces with the full support of the Sugar planters in the Island of Negros Occidental, which is the model of the present day Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Units (CAFGU). Vic also trained civilian security forces in Lanao Del Sur where he and the security force rescued a number of young Christian girls abducted and used as slaves. In 1990 Vic returned to the States and went into semi retirement. He worked as a trainer/consultant for a Security company tasked to train US Government employees deploying overseas in surveillance, counter surveillance, and anti terrorism techniques. Since 2002, Vic retired to an island of the Calamian island group, Northern Palawan. He did consulting work for a US company specializing in Global affairs. Vic supported a number of high school and college students to the completion of their education. He was also involved with the DLS HS 59 medical and livelihood projects as well as other environmental projects. Vic passed away on February 20, 2009 and his ashes will be interred at the Columbarium in Arlington National Cemetery, USA on May 21, 2009.
