The Animo Lives On: Alumni Athletes Bring Pride and Passion Beyond the Classroom

Promoting Lasallian Spirit, Healthy Aging, and Community Excellence

The De La Salle Alumni Association (DLSAA) takes immense pride in celebrating a powerful movement within the Lasallian community — one that brings together passion for sports, healthy aging, and the indomitable Animo.
Wearing the green and white is more than just putting on a uniform — it’s an embodiment of a spirit that transcends generations. It’s a declaration of pride, unity, and lifelong purpose. This spirit was vibrantly alive as 43 Lasallian alumni athletes proudly competed in the Philippine Masters Athletics Championship (PMAC) held on June 7–8, 2025, at the PSC-Ultra Sports Complex.

From its humble beginnings in early 2024, the De La Salle Alumni Athletics — a community of Lasallian graduates passionate about sports and healthy living — has grown into a powerful symbol of the enduring Animo. Founded by Gerald Lazo (BS ECE ’85), Juan Villa (BS IME ’79), and Jocson Chan (BS CS ’90), the team debuted in May 2024 with only 12 members. Today, the Masters Green Trackers count 55 athletes which also include DLSAA Sports Hall of Fame awardees, with 43 showcasing their skill, grit, and passion at this year’s PMAC. Their performance earned 86 individual awards (63 team medals), a 3rd overall trophy, and the Largest Delegation award.

Whether soaring over hurdles, mastering the triple jump, sprinting in relays, or dominating in throwing events, the alumni athletes exemplified discipline, perseverance, and passion — all core Lasallian values. Beyond the medals and trophies, one of the most meaningful victories was the gift of health and renewed vigor. Masters athletics demands a disciplined lifestyle: consistent training, healthier eating habits, and a renewed commitment to overall well-being.

Despite the wide age range among team members, they remain closely united by shared Lasallian traditions and a fierce sense of community. Each stride on the track and every leap into the sand pit become a celebration of the Animo — a reminder that excellence, camaraderie, and service know no age.

The Lasallian community takes great pride in this achievement, celebrating not only the results, but also the example these athletes set for younger generations. This milestone is a testament to the unbreakable bond shared among alumni — one that champions wellness, camaraderie, and shared tradition.

Looking ahead, the De La Salle Alumni Athletics team is poised to grow even stronger, with over 60 athletes expected next season. Several members are now preparing to represent the Philippines at the Asian Masters Athletics Championship (AMAC) this November in India — proudly carrying not just the national flag, but also their Lasallian pride to the international stage.

In the end, 43 strong men and women finished the season as champions. Yet, the greatest triumph was shared by all: the incomparable joy and pride of wearing the La Salle uniform once more, reliving the honor, and reigniting the unyielding Lasallian Animo.
