ID 75: DLSU’s First Batch Turns Gold — A Golden Journey Back Home

De La Salle University (DLSU) Classes of College 1979 and 1980 came together last November 22, 2025 to celebrate a milestone unlike any other: “ID 75 Turns Gold.”

It was 50 years ago when DLSU turned into a co-educational institution and opened its doors to more than 200 girls.  It was in 1975 that DLSU earned its University Charter.  This came as a result of a referendum to decide if De La Salle College will become co-educational.  It was decided on a very slim margin.

By 1979,  the percentage of females was increased from 25% to 40%.  The trailblazing ladies of ID 75 and those who came after created the path to what DLSU is today.

Back then, their ID numbers began with 75, marking their entry year. Numbers that now symbolize not only enrollment but also a shared legacy spanning five decades. These Lasallites (as they called themselves then) returned to relive the memories that had shaped them.  Guests enjoyed a program filled with socials, mass, dinner, storytelling, and the kind of laughter that only long-time friends can bring.

The organizing committee, Nini Vargas-Uichico (Com 79), Marty Cunanan-Plumley, Prospie Prospero-Duque (Lia-com 80), Grace Reyes-Villanueva (Lia-com 80, Edwin Seña (Eng 80), Jimmy Pascual (Eng 80), and Sunny Escareal-Velasco (Com 79), prepared a program designed to bring ID 75 back to its roots.

It was filled with tribute segments, throwback presentations, batch photo sessions, and the unveiling of stories behind how this reunion came to life. What started with a simple gathering grew into a beautiful merging of College Batches ’79 and ’80 alumni united by the same entry year, the same milestones, and the same Lasallian heart.

It included a special performance by De La Salle Innersoul, the university’s premier vocal ensemble. Their presence bridged generations.  Lasallians of 1975 meeting the voices of 2025.  Their performance was more than entertainment; it was a symbolic passing of the torch, as today's students serenade the University’s earliest co-ed batches who helped shape the campus culture they now enjoy.

The program also featured:

  • A special solo number by Ric Casco (Lia-Com 80) and Dante Maranan (Lia-com 80)
  • A lively set from The Playback Band
  • Group sing-alongs, lip-sync battles, and dancing led by alumni and friends
  • A nostalgic lineup of college-era music matched with decades of stories and laughter

More than a reunion, this celebration is a tribute to the pioneering students who entered DLSU in 1975. Those who witnessed major transitions and carried the Lasallian flag with pride for 50 years.
They did not just look back, they celebrated what it means to belong, to endure, and to come home.

Animo, ID 75! Here’s to more years of memories and many more reunions to come.
